The Golden Apple Award has, from its inception, been initiated, planned and implemented by dedicated students. When the Golden Apple Award began, the Golden Apple Award Student Committee on Teaching planned the event. This committee was independent of campus organizations and was very successful for a few years. Unfortunately, this committee was not able to continue planning this wonderful award, so this year the ASUC Office of Academic Affairs took it on. Natalie Gavello and the rest of her office is extremeley excited to be bringing this award back after a few years of its absence. The Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching begain in 2003 as a project of an ASUC Senator. After a few years of planning, the very first Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching was awarded in 2005 to Professor Darren Zook, who delivered his first "ideal last lecture" at the ceremony held in his honor that year. The winning professors have been posed with the challenge, "if you had one lecture left to give, what would you say?" This question has become a hallmark of the Golden Apple Award each year and has framed the central nomination and selection criterion of the award - the professor who teaches each lecture as if it were his or her last. The goal of this award is to honor those professors who consistently dedicate themselves to their students every single day. |
